FKA Twigs has always been ahead of the curve. The English singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer has built a world entirely her own— creating something futuristic yet deeply human.
I remember being blown away by LP1 when it dropped in 2014. Its mix of futuristic R&B, experimental electronics, and ethereal vocals felt like nothing else at the time. Avant-Pop. If that’s a thing. A decade later, she’s still pushing forward.
Her new album, EUSEXUA (the caps are intentional), released at the end of January, continues this evolution—this time with an added pop sheen. Pitchfork described it perfectly: “Twigs’ third album brings club music into her sensual, supernatural world.”
She’s more futuristic than Kate Bush, who was always considered futuristic.
She’s more avant-garde than Lady Gaga, who was always considered avant-garde.
She’s more otherworldly than Björk, who was always considered otherworldly.
Does she fit into a genre? Not really.
You can draw comparisons, but she’s clearly carving out a space that’s entirely her own.
I always advise clients to look at companies and brands they admire. Not to copy—but to learn. What are they doing well? What could you do better?
If you want to stand out, stop trying to fit into an existing mould.
Build a world so distinct, so “you,” that people have no choice but to pay attention.
You don’t have to make everyone write your name in all caps, but—maybe you should try
