It’s the end of the year, a time to look back, look forward, or maybe both.

For me, Spotify Wrapped is far more exciting than the Christmas Number One. This year, it even came with a personal thank you from my top eight artists. Nice touch.

Apparently, my year was defined by ‘princess power pop’ and ‘shouty noisy men’; a surprisingly accurate summary. Dua Lipa, Yard Act, Olivia Rodrigo, Idles, Sabrina Carpenter, Chapel Roan, the dare, Charli XCX... they’re all there.

That’s my look back.

Looking ahead? I can’t predict what will dominate my playlists next year, but discovering it is half the fun. None of those artists were on last year’s list, which New Order usually tops. Maybe normal service will be resumed.
